Engage Nepal 2027

In the last few months, Global Ministries has identified disability—particularly the participation, leadership, and belonging of people with disabilities—as a priority area in our global work. As we begin to explore what this could look like, we believe God is inviting us to ask an important question: How might embracing disability and the gifts of people with disabilities grow and strengthen the church?
In Nepal, one of our major partners has been asking this question for many years. They have intentionally created space for people with disabilities to lead, serve, participate, and belong within the church. Their experience offers us a powerful picture of what the Body of Christ can become when we move beyond simply making space for disability and begin to recognize and celebrate the gifts, leadership, and contribution of people with disabilities.
At the beginning of March, our partners will host their third national conference on Disability & the Church. The conference brings together church leaders and congregations to examine how we understand disability and how stereotypes, misconceptions, and barriers can prevent people from fully participating in the life of the church.Together, they will explore what happens when churches become places where people of all abilities genuinely belong, are valued, and have opportunities to contribute.
We would love to invite Canadian churches to join us in Nepal and become part of this conversation. Not simply an opportunity to visit a beautiful country and attend a conference. But as an invitation to listen, learn, build relationships, and return home with new questions, new perspectives, and new possibilities for your church.
Perhaps your church is just beginning to think about disability. Perhaps you have already taken steps toward greater accessibility and belonging. Or perhaps you are looking for ways to help your congregation recognize and engage the gifts of people with disabilities.Wherever your church is on that journey, there is an opportunity to learn and to contribute.
We believe this conversation is bigger than any one church, country, or culture. It is a conversation that crosses continents, languages, and cultures—and reminds us that we are part of one global Body of Christ.
